Paver Sealing Built For Boston Winters
Boston's outdoor surfaces earn their keep. Brownstone courtyards in Back Bay and the South End, brick sidewalks on Beacon Hill, triple-decker backyards in Dorchester and driveways in West Roxbury and Hyde Park all face the same long season of snow, plowing and de-icing salt. By spring, many patios and walks look faded, salty and loose at the joints.
Our paver service focuses on restoring those surfaces and protecting them for the next winter. We clean pavers, install fresh polymeric sand and apply a sealer in a wet look or natural finish. Brownstones, Row Houses & Brick Neighborhoods
Boston is a brick city. Beacon Hill is known for brick sidewalks and gas lamps, Back Bay and the South End are lined with brownstones and row houses, and nearby Cambridge has its own blocks of brick walks and patios. Behind many of these homes are small rear courtyards and garden patios built with pavers, brick or bluestone.
Older brick and stone in these neighborhoods often needs a lighter touch than modern concrete pavers. High pressure can erode softer brick and mortar, so we match the method to the material and only recommend sealing where it suits the surface. For historic brick and natural stone, our stone restoration service is usually the right starting point.
Courtyards, Roof Decks & Triple-Decker Yards
Space is at a premium across the city. A rear courtyard in the South End, a shared backyard behind a triple-decker in Dorchester or nearby Somerville, or a small patio off a condo can be the only private outdoor space a household has. Those spaces bring their own challenges:
- Narrow alleys, shared access and permit parking mean work has to be scheduled and staged carefully.
- High walls and neighboring buildings keep courtyards shaded and damp, which encourages moss and algae.
- Small patios collect grit, planter runoff and grill drips in a concentrated area.
- Rooftop paver systems on decks need gentle cleaning that respects the structure and drainage beneath them.
For rooftop pavers and pedestal systems, we focus on cleaning and protecting the paver surface and will tell you up front if anything is outside what we can safely service. Where pavers have heaved or sunk at ground level, masonry repairs come first.
Salt, Nor'easters & Coastal Air
Heavy De-Icing Salt
City sidewalks, stoops and driveways in Boston see a lot of salt over the winter, and it gets tracked onto patios and walks. Salty meltwater soaks into unsealed pavers and concrete, leaving white residue and contributing to surface wear. A sealed surface absorbs less of that water and is easier to rinse clean in spring.
Nor'easter Rain And Snow
Nor'easters bring wind-driven rain, heavy wet snow and lots of shoveling. Runoff washes loose sand out of paver joints, and shovels and snow blowers scrape exposed edges. Hardened polymeric sand stands up to runoff far better than loose sand.
Salt Air Off The Harbor
Neighborhoods near Boston Harbor and Dorchester Bay, such as South Boston, Charlestown and East Boston, also deal with damp, salty air that speeds up fading and algae growth on unprotected hardscapes.
Our Process For Boston Properties
Most Boston homeowners choose our full Wash, Sand & Seal restoration. We start by cleaning the pavers and clearing salt residue, moss and old joint material. Then we fill the joints with polymeric sand, compact it and activate it so it hardens. Finally we apply a sealer that suits the surface and the look you want.
Because many city jobs involve tight access, we confirm parking, water access and any building or association rules before the work day, so the visit runs smoothly for you and your neighbors. We are licensed and insured.

Along with paver sealing, Boston homeowners often need:
- Concrete sealing for driveways, front steps and walks that get salted all winter.
- Stone and brick restoration for granite steps, bluestone and older brick.
- Masonry repairs for frost-heaved pavers, loose steps and plow damage.
- Patio installations for new paver patios, walkways and courtyards.
We also serve surrounding communities including Brookline, Newton, Quincy, Milton, Dedham, Cambridge and Somerville.
Paver Care Through A Boston Winter
Good paver care in Boston is mostly about getting through winter well. Use a plastic shovel blade where you can, go easy on rock salt on sealed pavers, and consider sand for traction on patios that are not used much in winter. In spring, rinse salt residue and grit off with a garden hose and sweep debris out of the joints. If the sealer has worn, joints have dropped or white haze keeps returning, it is a good time to schedule cleaning, re-sanding and resealing.
Boston Paver Sealing FAQ
Do you work on brownstone courtyards in Back Bay and the South End?
Yes. We clean and seal paver courtyards and patios behind brownstones and row houses, and we plan around tight access, shared alleys and parking.
Can you seal older brick walkways?
Sometimes. Older brick often needs to breathe, so we assess it first and only recommend sealing when it suits the material. Gentle cleaning is often the better choice.
Will sealing protect my pavers from road salt?
Sealer helps limit how much salty water soaks into pavers and makes residue easier to rinse away. It does not make pavers immune, so spring rinsing still helps.
Do you serve towns outside the city, like Brookline, Newton or Quincy?
Yes. We serve Boston and many surrounding communities. Call or text to confirm your town.
